- Sunwine Rkatsiteli Qvevri 2021
The dark amber color reminds me a lot of amber honey. At first, it's a bit tricky to catch the aromas, but it soon opens up with hints of ocean sea salt, honeysuckle, beeswax, orange blossom, peach pit, and peanut shells. The flavors are pretty similar, with a touch of dried citrus peel and toasted almonds. There's a slight hint of oxidation, but it's not bothersome. The wine is high in tannin, has a medium-bodied feel, and boasts high, mouthwatering acidity. It finishes with a nice creamy, nutty taste. I'd pair this with grilled salmon served with a mango honey glaze.
- Wine Review: Medrano Irazu "Choza Blanco" 2023
This is a simple wine that made me want more from it. The blend did present well with aromas and flavors of orange peel, lychee, grapefruit flesh, and minerality. The structure could have tannin to connect the sensual aspect. It's still an decent wine, but nothing that would make me want to revisit that vintage.
- Wine Review: Yealands "lighter" Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Yealands "lighter" Sauvignon Blanc 2022 The brighter and lighter low calorie craze hasn't been anything I look forward to. I see another marketing ploy to get people to buy another thing. I tried Yealands lighter Sauvignon Blanc and the first thing I said was "woah this taste like a real Sauvignon Blanc." The traditional New Zealand flavor profile is there right along with the structure. I'm not sure how they managed to dilute the wine to lower the calories, and not anything else. But it surely set the standard for low calorie wines for me.
- Wine Review: Loveblock "Tee" Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Loveblock "tee" Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Loveblock is a traditional benchmark New Zealand Sauvignon blanc usually, but their new "tee" offering is a game changer! In this healthy lifestyle era, Loveblock tee fits in and sets the tone for organic offerings. What sets the tee apart from their benchmark Loveblock offering is that in the winemaking process the team discovered that using green tea leaves in their steps made the wine more oxidation resistant, added nice soft natural tannin, and added a delicate green tea aroma and flavor to the wine. Some of the other aromas and flavors of the wine are fresh grapefruit, mandarin, pineapple, apple, yellow pear, green tea, basil, mixed cocktail fruit cup juice, tarragon, melon, gooseberry, and ripe green bell pepper. This would pair really nice with rotisserie chicken, cream sauce pasta, seafood, raw oysters, and creamy cheeses like goat cheese.
- Wine Review: CVNE: Cune Albariño 2023
CVNE: Cune Albariño 2023 I had a biased first glance at this wine, because it comes from a big production house and it was priced at $11.99. I thought to myself, "this has to be an after thought product that they have to use to make a profit". I will tell you, that I was wrong. This wine is a fantastic value purchase. Tropical aromas of pineapple, guava, peach, passionfruit, and mango jump out of the glass instantly. The mouthfeel is nice and rich with a hint of sweetness that makes the flavors seem a little overripe. Overripe for this is a good thing. Blended into the mix is a mouthwatering acidity that carries the flavors into the next sip. This is what I call a delicious wine. This could easily pair with a fruit salad, charcuterie board, or poultry cuisines.
- Wine Review: Muga Rosado 2024
Muga Rosado 2024 Let me start off by saying this isn't your typical rosé style like from the provence. It has a darker pink hue, but it is still light and refreshing. So many red fruit aromas and flavors burst out of the glass, that it pulls you in. it has a pleasant mouthfeel and a little bit of body to it. This is the wine you want to take to the beach or sip on in the beginning of the autumn season. I'd like to have this with a nice cured meat and cheese board sitting on my patio with a cozy blanket. Not saying that this wine is going to replace my glass of whiskey for that occasion, but it could if I want to have something more reserved.
- Wine Review: Weis Vineyards Dry Riesling 2023
Weis Vineyards Dry Riesling 2023 I'm a big fan of wines from the Finger Lakes area, but I haven't heard of Weis Vineyards. I didn't know what to expect, because dry Rieslings can be a hit or miss. This wine really took me by surprise. I expected it to be a bone-dry wine, but it was the perfect balance between sweet and dry. It's what I usually imagine when I think of a dry Riesling. There was a hint of sweetness and a nice drying finish to take away the sweetness and showcase all of the ripe fruit flavors. It had all of the fingerprint flavors and aromas of clean petrol, apricot, peach, red apple, pear, honeysuckle, and citrus. The thing that is most memorable is the pleasant long refreshing finish of the wine. This is a great wine to pair with seafood, spicy Asian cuisine, Curried cuisine, and sushi.
- Wine Review: Tacco Barocco Primitivo 2022
Tacco Barocco Primitivo 2022 This wine was on sale for $8.99 before tax, so I figured it doesn't hurt to give it a shot. I'm glad I did! It has a violet color with a garnet rim variation. Nice ripe dark fruit aromas like plum and black cherries. As it develops, it really opens up with more aromas of smoke, leather, violets, cedar, nutmeg, and ground black peppercorn. The taste is dominated with the ripe fruit flavors same as the ones from the aroma. The wine has a nice delicate structure with a jam like mouthfeel layered with soft acidity and tannin. Tacco Barocco will pair well with BBQ, Game, Pizza, Stews, and Meat & Cheese boards.
- Wine Review: Salto Sangiovese 2021
A velvety light bodied red wine with gradually growing bitterness, that stops at the perfect spot of drying sensation. Aromas of plum, black currant, blackberry, cherry, strawberry, cranberry, tobacco, clove, violets, oak, and dried thyme. On the palate, dried fruits like cranberries and cherries, dried herbs, and ground black pepper. A wine that can go with anything.
- Wine Review: Caspagnolo Chianti 2022
Nose: floral, violets, tar, ripe blue and black berry, dark cherry, plum, bramble, light oak, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg. Palate: bright acidity, medium bodied, coarsed tannins. Dark berries, black pepper, Dark chocolate flavor. Although this wine has layers to it, it has an overwhelming sensation of bitterness that I did not enjoy and wouldn't want to have with food.
